Friends of Lake Cumberland

Since many of you have asked for it, here is a link to the Army Corps of Engineers Lake Cumberland/Wolf Creek Dam web page. It has tons of information, although it does not appear to be anything new that we have not heard before. It is a factual account.: http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/pao/issues/WOLcommo/

If you want to monitor the level here is the website: http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/hh/resplots/wol_a.html

The chart at the bottom of the page shows you the reading. Remember that once the lake level hits 687’ it will start going down a foot a day. With the lake level at 687.05 at 11-am on 2/1/07 – a rapid decrease in the water level should start very soon. Once the level hits 682’ the decrease will be about 4” – 6” a day until it gets to 680”.

For those that missed it this morning, Commerce Cabinet Secretary George Ward and representatives from the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet appeared on Jack Pattie’s “Nine to Ten Show” on WVLK-AM 590.

No news was committed or announcements made – just a factual accounting of what the Fletcher administration is doing to address the situation. However, one caller – “Tim” – said his motorcycle group would be heading to Lake Cumberland this summer, specifically to view the lake as he’s never seen it before. He is going “because of” the water level reduction.

Some folks pointed out that last night on The Weather Channel they did an extended piece with what the impact of a major breach would be on Nashville. It was about five minutes long.

If you have any questions, please e-mail them back to me at this address: chris.gilligan@ky.gov and we will try and get you an answer.
